The Wars in New England are usually referred to the wars between natives of New England and the European colonists in 17th century in New England. These wars are considered as one of the most bloodies conflicts in the American history as it resulted in thousands of death on both sides and ended with the victory of European colonist.
The Pequot War (1637-1638)
The Europeans introduced many diseases to which the natives had little to no resistance. As a result, many natives died and their number declined sharply.Which caused resentment among natives against the European colonist. As the British colonies grew they inevitably came into conflict with the natives. Some economic interests were also considered as the primary cause of this war as English wanted to break the Dutch-Pequot control of wampum and fur trade while the Pequot wanted to maintain their political and economic dominance in the region, which ultimately led to the first war between natives and the European colonist know as The Pequot War. This War was fought in 1637-1638 and it ended in the destruction of Pequot tribe.
King Philip's War(1675-1676)
Another desperate struggle by natives against European colonists took place in 1675-1676. The colonists heavy handed treatment of the natives led to King Philip's War. King Philip was actually a native called Metacom and the war ended with his death This war is considered as one of the most bloodiest and devastating conflict in the American history.
A great damage was done on both sides as it left several hundred colonist dead and dozens of English settlement either destroyed or heavily damaged and while on other hand thousands of natives were died.
This defeat of the natives at the hands of colonist in the King Philip's war ended the native's dominance in the New England region and this effectively meant that the colonists now had the mastery of New England.
